STEVE BREASTON TAKE

I think Breaston proved himself in 2008 as an NFL wide receiver, but I also think he, like Warner, was the beneficiary of the perfect storm that surrounded Arizona’s offense last year. Breaston (as a number three guy)+ in a pass happy offense with Boldin and Fitzgerald is dangerous. Breaston as a number two guy in a balanced offense is not. I think there will be some overvaluing here, ESPECIALLY if Boldin gets traded.

I LOVE Breaston in 2009. He rolled up over 1,000 yards receiving last year, to almost no one’s notice. I think Boldin will be traded by-hook-or-by-crook, which will leave Breaston as the number two guy behind Fitzgerald.

Talk about an embarrassment of riches at wideout in the desert. This guy went 77/1006/and 3 touchdowns last season as the third option for Warner, however the low TD total does show where he stands in the red zone pecking order. A great bye week replacement wide receiver and someone you can start depending on the matchup.

Part of me loves the potential value of Breaston this year if Boldin moves on and Kurt Warner plays a full slate. But I can't, in good conscience, simply ignore what I said in Warner's Take and only apply it when it suits my argument.  I have to stay true to it across the board, otherwise what use am I to you?  A major positive is that I'm firmly entrenched in the camp that believes Boldin doesn't play a single snap for the Cards this year.  That's potentially cancelled out by the fact that I don't believe Warner plays 16 games.  These numbers are based on Breaston being the Cards #2 WR this year and I view them as best case scenario.

You know you’ve got a special offense when your number three wide receiver puts up 77 receptions, 1006 yards, and three touchdowns as Breaston did for the Cardinals last season. Right now he is ranked anywhere from 20-40 in most circles but if Anquan Boldin is traded, then Breaston jumps in a hurry. The numbers below are based on Boldin still being a Card; increase them across the board if Boldin is traded.

The prospect of Anquan Boldin being traded means big things for Steve Breaston. He has demonstrated his speed on special teams and put up a fine showing when given the chance to start in place of Boldin. I don’t foresee any problems with him being the No. 2 wideout on that Arizona squad.

He stepped up big-time for Anquan Boldin during the year and might elevate into a No. 2 receiver for the Cards if the club deals Boldin this offseason. I am basing this on the fact that I think Boldin is gone.

Breaston finally got a chance to show that he could do more than just return kicks last season and he certainly didn’t disappoint.  His season this year will depend on what happens with Anquan Boldin.  If Boldin stays, Breaston’s reception totals should be similar to last year but, if the slot across from Larry Fitzgerald becomes available, he becomes one of fantasy’s top sleepers.
