JASON CAMPBELL TAKE

Campbell is never going to an elite, franchise quarterback. The Redskins have realized this now as well, as exhibited by them trying to win the “Cutler Sweepstakes” earlier this month. However, Campbell will be a solid quarterback. Just think of him as the leader of the “Not So Sexy” fantasy team.

Every year we hear the Campbell hype, about all the work he’s put in on the offseason, about how this is the year he finally becomes a guy you want on your fantasy team and yet here we are entering his fifth season and he’s still not a guy I want on my fantasy team. It’s clear the Redskins aren’t sold on the guy so why should you be? He has plenty of weapons at his disposal if he could just learn how to use them.

Although his numbers have improved every season, Campbell definitely lacks the “Wow” factor. He plays in a ball control offense and although he possesses a monster arm, he finished a disappointing tenth in the NFC in touchdown passes with 13 and had an alarming eight games with less than 200 yards passing. He is heading into his fifth year and could improve still, but the ceiling for this QB is closing in.

Apparently Daniel Snyder has no confidence in him, as he has tried to trade for Jay Cutler, as well as inquire about trading into position to take Mark Sanchez. Campbell turned in an acceptable fantasy season last year when you consider he was transitioning to yet another offensive scheme. With several young players at wide receiver, and steady production from Portis and Cooley, the Redskins are doing everything they can to build a quality offense. The only question is if Campbell will be around to see this transition to fruition. I say he sticks around this season and then bolts. But a solid “matchup” play in 2009.

He should be considered a number 2 fantasy quarterback. He has never put up gaudy stats but could see a slight improvement.

Though Campbell has shown slight improvement since he gained the starting role, he still hasn't proven that he can be a top notch quarterback in this league.  He also plays in a run-dominated offense that limits his fantasy value.  If the rumors that the Redskins are aggressively pursuing a quarterback in the draft turn out to be true, that will tell you everything you need to know about how they view him.

Jason Campbell has yet to establish himself as a quarterback who can single-handedly change games, but he is gradually getting there. No one can deny that he takes care of the football and makes good decisions. His average quarterback rating of 80.4 is a testament to that. But, he simply won’t rack up the numbers that pay dividends to fantasy owners.

He's not a starting NFL quarterback.  A career high of 13 touchdowns four years in?!  And we can't even blame it on him being under wraps.  Only nine QB's attempted more passes than Campbell last year.  Yes, he's probably gotten a bit of a raw deal from the fact that few other NFL teams would ever be envious of Washington's receiving corp but that's not going to save him.  I doubt we're looking at more than 8 starts this year.  I yank VERY few players off of my draft board but Campbell will get the hook if I don't see some serious changes before August.
