DESEAN JACKSON TEAM TAKE

Explosive talent that experienced the usual ups and downs of a rookie season, registering double digit fantasy points in just five games.  Had a tendency to disappear for long stretches and, at just 5’9”, isn’t a red-zone threat, but his big play ability will never be questioned. If the Eagles can add a big possession receiver (i.e. T.J. Houshmandzadeh) to take some of the pressure off of him, he’ll stand as a solid No. 2 receiver.

This little firecracker was just what McNabb needed. Jackson is a legit long ball threat who can also take a short slant to the “hizzle” every time he touches the rock. Jackson will never be a big red zone threat, so it'd be a good idea for him to learn to wait on his touchdown celebrations until he reaches the goal line.  Other than that, Jackson should be a solid #3 (borderline #2) fantasy wide receiver for the next few years. In fact, I’d take him over Lance Moore in 2009, and I don’t think it will even be close.

He led the Eagles in receiving as a rookie and proved to be a consistent deep threat for McNabb. He is such a weapon that he was used in the running game too with reverses as part of his repertoire. Getting the ball into his hands in space is a priority for the Eagles and drafting him as a #2 fantasy wideout should be a priority for you next season! There is plenty of upside here.

Jackson was a revelation for the Eagles as he finally gave Donovan McNabb a consistent target to throw to. He also provided a game-breaking element that Philadelphia has been lacking. His star is definitely on the rise and, if he stays healthy, he should absolutely improve on last year's numbers.

Jackson was targeted nine or more times in six of the first 12 games.  After that he was only targeted 5+ times in any single game twice.  It's difficult to quantify the proverbial rookie wall, but if you drew up what it would look like in numbers, his stats hit a bullseye.  The fact that Jackson had six rushing attempts in the first 8 games and 12 in the last eight, shows the Eagles wanted to get him more touches and defenses weren't allowing it.  This is the learning curve every vertically challenged, diminutive WR must take at the professional level.  I'd be nothing short of shocked if Jackson makes a huge stride this year.  But I still say he's a very special athlete and that will reward patient owners down the road.

We were one of the few sites that actually liked DeSean Jackson’s potential and the only real surprise is that he only had two touchdowns last season.  I can hear all the Jackson owners saying he should have had three, I can’t believe that *bleep-bleep* fumbled like that. With Reggie Brown clearly nothing special and Kevin Curtis a nice slot guy, I look for an even better year out of Jackson in 2009.
