BRIAN WESTBROOK TAKE

First round pick that can frustrate at times. He will blow up one week and disappear the next. When the dust settles however...

He will be 30 when the season starts and has never played a complete 16 game season but his numbers, especially in the receiving game still make him one of the best running back options for at least another year. His rankings fluctuate based on scoring formats and peaks out in leagues with extra points on receiving statistics and length of TD bonus. If the Eagles acquire a goal line back then Westbrook’s numbers will drop a bit.

Although the numbers were down from ’06 and ’07, Mr. All Purpose still accumulated over 1300 total yards. His 14 touchdowns more than make up for the yardage anyways! Beware of his age though as he is now almost 30 with tons of mileage on his banged up body. He can still carry fantasy teams for stretches of the year but not the whole year as in the past!

The clock is quickly approaching midnight for this stud running back (he turns 30 later this year), but I think he has one more “elite” year in him, as I really like how the Eagles have reinforced their offensive line. With new addition Jason Peters blowing fools off the line and DeSean Jackson stretching the field, I think Westbrook will find a bit more room to do his thing. He’ll be a solid number one running back option.

Westbrook had his knee scoped in the offseason and says he's feeling better than ever.  The Eagles have made upgrades in their offensive line through trades, which I expect will help.  Plus, I fully expect that they will draft a running back to help Westbrook stay healthy, which in this case is a good thing.

Is this the year that “Captain Questionable” finally breaks down and suffers a major injury that puts him on the shelf? Perhaps not, but the Eagles have got to be planning for a Westbrook-less future sometime soon and may draft his replacement at the end of April. This might be the final year for him to be one of the best PPR fantasy options available.

Mr. Westbrook is a fantasy phenom, when healthy. He is insufferably linked to the Eagles’ injury report and some weeks it feels like taking care of a child. “Is he gonna play? It’s 15 minutes until gametime. Didn’t I go through this last week?” Brian is also approaching the tender age of 30, where every running back seems to disintegrate, but I believe he has one good season left in him

I believe the skill-position trifecta by Philly in the first three rounds (WR Jeremy Maclin, RB LeSean McCoy, TE Cornelius Ingram) is a GOOD thing for Westbrook owners.  For far too long, The Iggles have left Westy on an island of sorts - demanding entirely too much from his 5'10" 200 lb. frame.  It says here, the fantasy world is going to find out pretty darn quick that McCoy is the real deal as an open field threat.  I think he garners a full 1/3 of the duty already this year.  And that will translate into addition by subtraction for Westy owners, increasing the liklihood of remaining healthy all year.
