LANCE MOORE TEAM TAKE

Moore emerged from relative anonymity last season when teammate Marques Colston missed time early in 2008. Hard to project for 2009 due to the depth of New Orleans’ receiving corps but will certainly be overvalued. Even if he enters 2009 as the Saints’ third receiver, he projects as a No. 3 fantasy wideout due to the team’s prolific passing offense.

Does this guy know what to do with an opportunity or what? When Marques Colston went down with his injury, Moore stepped right into the WR1 role, was extremely productive and continued to be even after Colston returned. There always a place on fantasy rosters for a talented receiver who plays in an offense that throws as often as the Saints do, so Moore should make a fine WR3 this upcoming season.

The beneficiary of Colstons’ injury in ’08, Moore blossomed and produced over 900 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. It'll be easy to overrate him this year, but expect borderline #2 fantasy wideout production out of him in this offense. Chemistry with Drew Brees is a good thing I believe.

One of my projected “bust” candidates heading into 2009, I think Moore will be drafted much higher than he should. Moore had over 900 yards ago last year, and I’m sure there will be at least one person in your league willing to bet he can get to 1000 yards this year. Don’t be that guy. I don’t think Brees will approach last year’s passing numbers, Colston is back, and I think this will finally be the year in which Robert Meachem becomes a viable option, thereby limiting the number of opportunities Moore can get. A No. 4 wideout… at best.

Moore's 2008 season was an unexpected breakout. He's a restricted free agent, but should be back with the Saints. He will always be overshadowed by Colston, but Colston has an injury history and Moore earned Brees' trust last season.

I'd like to heed Jon's advice above, but Meachem was a popular sleeper last year and stayed slumbering to the tune of 12 catches in three starts and 12 games played.  For anybody

whose stance on Lance Moore is, "Nice 2008 buuut..." please riddle me this.  If his success hinged on Marques Colston's injury, then how did Moore get 53% of his targets, 51.8% of his receptions and seven of his 10 touchdowns in the second half of the season AFTER Colston returned?  How Lance Moore arrived is now irrelivent.  The fact remains, he has.
