RYAN GRANT TEAM TAKE

Grant started the year slowly due to a hamstring injury he suffered in preseason, but he finished up strong. Even though he may share more work with Brandon Jackson this year, the Packers are determined to work with him on the nuances of the zone blocking scheme they have implemented as they try to raise his yards per carry average. Bet on Grant having a similarly productive season despite losing some carries.

Grant only had four 100-yard performances last season, yet strangely he finished with 1,200 yards rushing. Coach Mike McCarthy has announced that he’s not scrapping the Packers zone-blocking scheme. Grant could be a good value pick come draft day.

Did finish sixth in the NFC in yards rushing but there are reasons to beware here. He only had five touchdowns, his yards per carry went down from 5.1 in 2007 to 3.9 in 2008, and Brandon Jackson is lurking dangerously. Should remain a solid #2 back but be cautious.

To be honest, I have never liked Ryan Grant as a fantasy player. He had the audacity to hold out after seven starts with the Packers. That tells me something about his mentality. He also failed to score a touchdown or post 100 total yards in his first six games of 2008. Does that sound like first round pick material to you? Bump him back to the third round and consider him an adequate No. 2 running back...and that’s
if the Packers can get their offensive line together.

Grant was one of the best backs in the second half of 2007 but failed to meet expectations last season, averaging only 3.9 yards per carry and finding the end zone only four times. I expect Brandon Jackson to cut into Grant’s stats even more this season.

Grant was inconsistent and a fantasy disappointment in 2008. He does not catch the ball and wasn't finding the end zone only scoring 4 times for the Pack. He will not make it out of the third round in any redraft and I feel there will be better options.

Very pedestrian running back with limited upside. Not very explosive or elusive. Only four touchdowns to show for 300+ attempts is inexcusable. The only reason he is a consideration as a number two fantasy running back is because of sheer number of touches. But if this is the year Brandon Jackson gets straight and can consistently get some touches, than all bets are off.

Grant is one RB that's teetering on the edge of #2 running back status, whose value could be heavily impacted by FA and the draft.  This line is in limbo with nine year vet Mark Tauscher coming off of knee surgery.  Depth is also a major issue across the board.  I can't see their line being any worse by September.  As has been mentioned, backup Brandon Jackson struggled with injuries last year, but gained 5.5 yds per on the chances he did get.  I'm staying conservative on Grant until we get through the summer.  Some stinging criticism above but I'm not so sure the line didn't have as much of a hand in the 3.9 ypc average as Grant himself.
