MATT SCHAUB TEAM TAKE

Ranked fourth in the NFL last year in yards per game with 276.6 ahead of Romo, Manning and Rivers. Prone to interceptions but at 27 years of age and with a young, improving offense expect a huge year from Mr. Schuab. He will really start earning some of that fat contract he signed a couple of seasons ago. Realistically begins the year as a #2 fantasy QB but he will be a legit #1 before long and will be started weekly by many a fantasy owner.

The poster boy for backups everywhere, Schaub finally emerged as a real fantasy quarterback  this past season.  The only knock on him is his inability to stay healthy, but you have to love his accuracy (66.3 % as a starter) and the weapons he has at his disposal (Andre Johnson, Steve Slaton and Kevin Walter.)  He should be in for an even better '09 campaign.

Schaub has struggled to escape the injury bug. Appeared in just 11 games in 2008 but still passed for over 3000 yards. Finished seventh in FFP per game at his position (21.0), ahead of Peyton Manning, Donovan McNabb and Matt Cassel. With the emergence of rookie running back Steve Slaton, the weapons are in place for Schaub to have a big season in 2009, health allowing.

One of the most frustrating players to own in fantasy football. Has great potential, and an above average supporting cast, but Schaub has been unable to put together a complete full season. And even in the games he does play, goes extremely hot and cold; thereby forcing owners to have another option as a necessity and not as a luxury. But IF he can stay healthy all year, all bets are off.

He's my fifth ranked dynasty QB for a reason.  The game film I've watched on Schaub doesn't display a lack of pocket awareness and holding onto the ball too long that Schaub has been charged with by many fantasy pundits for the past two years.  He only took seven sacks in weeks 14-17 (conspicuously coinciding with a running game that defenses finally had to pay attention to). Amazing how much easier it is to get rid of the ball when you're up against a front four that has to worry about more than Ahman Green plowing toward them at the speed of syrup.  In short, I think Schaub erupts this year.  (Downgrade for leagues penalizing interceptions.  Still a young, rebuilding defense that causes Schaub to get too aggressive at times).
