KURT WARNER TRADER TEAM TAKE

Warner will be 38 years old when the 2009 season rolls around but I believe he’s got at least one more top tier fantasy season in him. As long as he’s surrounded by arguably the best receiver corp in football there is no reason he shouldn’t again put up monster numbers.

Warner had a very productive season in 2008, leading the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. Warner passed for over 4,500 yards and threw for 30 touchdowns. And in the post season, Warner actually increased his production, throwing for 11 touchdowns in four post season games. Right now, the pieces are there for Warner to approach last year's numbers, and yet, even though EVERYTHING says “L-O-C-K”, I get a feeling that 2009 will be a letdown of sorts for Warner. Fitz will still get his, so no worries there, but I’m not sure Warner doesn’t struggle at times.

Who thought the Matt Leinart era was to begin last year? I know you guys are out there but I hope Leinart likes to hold a clipboard because Warner’s new two year, 23 million dollar deal ensures he will be the quarterback in the desert for another two years. Arizona is the perfect fit for this savvy vet who should remain a top option at the position heading into next year.

Warner was nearly forced out of Arizona by the cheapest owners in the NFL. Only Bill Bidwell can go to the Superbowl for the first time in his franchise’s history; then lowball the starting quarterback the next. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley is now the head coach in Kansas City, but Warner will still have the same offensive weapons, including the possibility of Anquan Boldin.

Warner played a full season for the first time since 2001 (and only the third time in his entire 11 year career.)  At 38 years of age, the odds are long on him being able to do it again.  He should be productive while he’s upright though and, if he does somehow manage to make it through the year unscathed, he has the weapons to put up some more unbelievable numbers.

What more can be said about a guy who finished in the top-5 at his position and took his team on a surprise Super Bowl run? Warner will return to Arizona, hopefully with Anquan Boldin, and continue to be one of the best options this season.

I love Kurt Warner and the Arizona Offense fits him perfectly. He is where he wants to be and he does not get rattled under any circumstance. The offensive line will be better and their run game will be improved as well. I look for Warner to have another great year.

Let me just throw this out there.  The LOWEST projections above, (Rascon) would have Warner completing a feat that's been accomplished twice in the NFL in the last 40 years.  That would be a 38+ year old QB tossing more than 25 touchdowns in a single season.  (Brett Favre threw 28 TD's in 2007 as a 38 year old and Warren Moon threw 33 in 1995 as a 39 year old).  NO OTHER 38 YEAR OLD QB HAS THROWN 26 OR MORE TOUCHDOWNS SINCE 1968.  They say you can't predict injury.  Well, in my humble opinion, at Warner's age I think you're on the wrong side of a coin-flip by thinking a 16 game season is in store.  And NFL history is backing me up.  Since 1994, there have been 50 total seasons played by QB's at 38+ years of age.  And how many of them played a full 16 games?  SIX.  Six for 50.  Go ahead and draft Warner as a #1 QB this year, I wish you the best of luck.
