DAVONE BESS TEAM TAKE

Though Bess does possess some talent, don’t get star-struck by his impressive rookie numbers from last season. His production picked up late in the year mostly due to the fact that Greg Camarillo was lost to injury after Week 11. With “the poor man’s Wes Welker” vying for receptions as well, expect Bess’ numbers to tumble.

Davone Bess had a nice rookie season, with 54 catches and 554 yards. But at the end of the day, do you really see Bess as potential gamebreaker that can win fantasy championships? I know I don’t. Bess is the new Josh Reed, who can help you through your bye weeks, especially in point per reception leagues, but that is about it. If you find yourself with him as your No. 3 wide receiver for more than 3 weeks, your season is over.

Bess had a solid second-half of the season last year, after Greg Camarillo went down. Camarillo won’t be fully ready to go when training camp begins; so Bess with be the second option in the passing game. Unfortunately, he’ll never be the homerun hitter, as long as Ginn Jr. is around.

Filled in nicely when starting wide receiver Greg Camarillo went down in Week 12, catching 30 passes from week 13-17. The Dolphins have big plans for the second-year player, and he could take Camarillo’s job opposite Ted Ginn, Jr. The Dolphins’ passing game, however, isn’t prolific enough to allow a viable fantasy option out of its second receiver slot, so Bess will likely be left undrafted.

Awful tough for me to get geeked about a guy that's just sort of blended in with the likes of Ted Ginn Jr., Brandon London, Ernest Wilford, Davone Bess, Greg Camarillo, Anthony Fasano, et al.  And a 32 year old Pennington, coming off a season where he threw 1.19 touchdowns a game and it was deemed a glorious success?  Everything about Miami just screams "average". Can we honestly see a scenario where any Dolphins WR goes off?  For my money, with my #4-#5 WR's I need some upside.

An unknown rookie going into last season, Bess ended up becoming one of Pennington’s top options at wideout. Amassed 54 catches for 554 yards and 1 touchdown last season. Finished strong with 366 yards in his final six games. A deep sleeper heading into this year’s draft, grab him as a #4 wideout and you could find value here.

I compared the undrafted rookie out of Hawaii to Wes Welker in our rookie writeups last season and Bess showed why. putting up 54 receptions and 554 yards. I’m not expecting anything special from Bess this season but he could continue to surprise. Could be worth a late flier but nothing more at this point.
